Elk at Yellowstone

Visualize this! As your trip begins, traveling north from the town of Jackson, on your right you might see a pair of Trumpeter Swans enjoying a swim on Flat Creek which meanders out through the National Elk Refuge. Beyond that, looking towards the eastern horizon, lies the Sleeping Indian Mountain, which is part of the Gros Ventre Mountain Range. As you are still traveling north, on your left, looking towards the west is The Teton Mountain Range. The tallest peak centered in this group of peaks, is The Grand Teton, at 13,700 feet above sea level. The Grand is the 2nd tallest peak in the State of Wyoming. Gannett Peak at 13,804 feet is the tallest peak and is in The Wind River Range.

The Grand Tetons at Sunset

Yellowstone National Park Wyoming is 60 miles north of the town of Jackson and two different routes are available. Both routes travel through Grand Teton National Park. Our tours to Yellowstone from Jackson normally go through Moose, Wyoming via The John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. After traveling through Grand Teton National Park en-route to Yellowstone, it would be highly likely that more than one in your group would want to return and spend a couple of days or more exploring this enchanting National Park. That is on another tour that we have in mind for you, your family or your group. Today, lets explore Yellowstone National Park Wyoming at its Best-Places and Things-To-Do. Traveling from Jackson Hole, Wyoming you will be entering through the South Entrance of the Park.

On or off the road with more than 950 miles of hiking trails and 300 miles of public roads Yellowstone offers many opportunities for vistors to explore the beauty of the Park. The Park Service asks that Jackson's Hole Adventure emphasizes it is crucial that park rules and regulations are observed to protect the natural and cultural resources and safety of the visitors.

Yellowstone National Park's main roads are constructed in a figure 8 - picture that. At present we are going to start with the Circle of Fire Loop. Traveling north a must see is the Grant Village Visitors Center. The Visitors Center offers an incredible exhibit on the infamous Yellowstone Fires of 1988. Many of us here at Jackson's Hole Adventure were fortunate enough to experience this. We have so many stories to share with you. This was a time that along with the Park Service, we were given a first hand insight into the real power of Nature and how little in control man really has. Remind your Jackson's Hole Adventure Guide to amplify on this great time in history.

Continuing North, a sensible designated left will lead you into the direction of the Old Faithful Geyser. You will be more than satisfied that you decided on a guided tour and not be the designated driver unable to look around. Your head will surely be bobbing side to side, hoping never to miss a thing. This is one of the reasons you brought the rest of the group along for the 360' panoramic advantage all at once.

Gysers at Yellowstone

The Geysers - What a blast!

Geyser watching is one of the landmarks of the Yellowstone National Park Wyoming. Around 640,000 years ago, the area was formed by the volcanic eruptions of the Yellowstone caldera. Today, remnants of the volcanic activity are still present in the many geysers and hot springs around the area. Most people have already heard of the legendary Old Faithful geyser, which erupts every 91 minutes, but there are other equally grand geysers around the park such as the West thumb Geyser Basin.

The geysers are the result of underground water formations that are heated by the lava flow that still occurs under the soil because of intense heat, pressure builds up and creates the eruptions that many visitors have witnessed in awe over the years. Aside from the geysers, try the boardwalk near the Grand Prismatic Spring which houses rare algae that live in high temperatures.

Cross-country skiing

You have the best of both worlds in Yellowstone National Park Wyoming because visitors get the option of both warm water springs - and cold climate fun. If you are looking for some adventure in the snow, try cross-country skiing across the slopes of the alpine mountains in the area. There are various facilities and agencies which offer skiing services and guided tours across the snow-capped mountain ranges for visitors to enjoy. Guides are also available to help the beginner start his or her cross-country skiing adventure. Before reaching the top of the mountains, enjoy the pine scenery around you and watch out for elk, moose, and a collection of furry rodents that live in the area. And once you reach the snowy top, be prepared to kick some snowy dust as you slide down the slopes.

Walking tours

Finally, for those who want some quiet time to go with their trip to the park, try some walking tours with a well-acquainted guide to let you in on some of the famous nooks and crannies of the park where you can get a glimpse of enormous waterfalls, springs and rivers, as well as forests. Boardwalks have also been placed in many of the major spots around the area such as the geysers and famous springs, to make your stay easier. In the end, if it is a trip to the great outdoors that you want, try Yellowstone National Park Wyoming.
